While only three employees receive this distinction, the volume and strength of nominations this year speak volumes about the remarkable people who make up CJE. Across every department, our staff continues to demonstrate the heart, purpose, and values of the CJE Way.
This year, we are honored to celebrate Mariana Sanchez, Bonnie Sheehan, and Joseph Song, three individuals who embody our mission and bring it to life in impactful and unique ways.
Mariana Sanchez: A Steady Presence and Trusted Advocate
For 14 years, Mariana Sanchez, Social Worker II, has been a cornerstone of CJE’s clinical team. Known for her thoughtful, client-centered approach, she helps older adults reconnect with hope and purpose while ensuring they feel heard and valued.
Her colleagues value her calm presence and ability to bring insight and reflection to the team. As one nomination shared, her years of service represent a daily act of devotion to the communities we serve.
Bonnie Sheehan: Creating Connection and Joy
Bonnie Sheehan, Activity Worker at the Weinberg Community, has made an immediate impact through her energy, creativity, and compassion. She creates engaging programs and meaningful one on one connections that help residents feel included and valued.
Her ability to build genuine relationships sets her apart, along with her willingness to step in wherever needed to support residents, families, and colleagues.
Joseph Song: Innovation Behind the Scenes
Joseph Song, Senior Business Intelligence Developer, has spent 14 years strengthening CJE through his expertise and innovation. Over the past year, he played a key role in the organization’s Salesforce data migration and has built tools that improve efficiency and support teams across CJE.
Known for his collaborative spirit and problem-solving skills, Joseph brings clarity to complex challenges and helps others succeed.

CJE SeniorLife expanded its reach with CJE Metro, an initiative designed to bring trusted care, resources, and support closer to older adults and families in Lakeview and Chicago’s near north neighborhoods.
Join us in assembling backpacks filled with school supplies for students supported by VOA Illinois. Operation Backpack is an annual drive hosted by VOA Illinois to collect backpacks and school supplies for the youth they serve, including children experiencing homelessness, children of the Veterans served by VOA Illinois, and children in all VOA Illinois youth programs. We are thrilled to spotlight Valerie Kretchmer as a valued member of the CJE SeniorLife Board of Directors. Valerie brings an extraordinary depth of experience as an urban planner and real estate consultant, with a career spanning nearly four decades. Her expertise in economics, feasibility analysis, affordable housing, and senior housing has helped shape communities across Chicagoland.
