CJE has launched a new community outpost in the City of Chicago, located within Anshe Emet Synagogue in the Lakeview neighborhood. This initiative, called CJE Metro, is designed to bring CJE’s services and programs to older adults, their families, and caregivers in Lakeview and across Chicago’s North Side. By expanding CJE’s Hub for Care Coordination, CJE Metro will make it easier for older adults and their families to find the support they need, close gaps in care and connection, and build stronger neighborhood networks.
The goal of CJE Metro is to reach more individuals and families that can benefit from services. While the office is in Lakeview, it serves Lincoln Park, Ravenswood and other northside Chicago neighborhoods as well. “There are a lot of gaps in the city for older adults,” says CJE Community Care Coordinator Shayna Jensky. “CJE Metro’s mission is to identify and bridge them.”
To accomplish this goal, Jensky is fostering community outreach and care coordination efforts to strengthen support for older adults and their families across the city. CJE Metro is building partnerships with faith-based and social service organizations to raise awareness, create relevant programming, and encourage referrals for individuals who may need specialized services. These collaborations also include opportunities for joint programming to better serve the community.
“My goal is to increase CJE’s visibility and connect both affiliated and unaffiliated Jewish—and non-Jewish—older adults and their loved ones with the resources, guidance, and programs that help them thrive,” says Jensky.
Looking ahead, CJE Metro plans to host a Caregiver Day focused on support and training for family caregivers, as well as cognitive wellness programs. A Government Benefits Day is also in the works to help individuals navigate Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and other benefits. The long-term vision will encompass even more: lifelong learning programs, hospice education, social programs for engagement and connection, caregiver education, and ageing support resources. It’s all coming soon—stay tuned!
