Yom HaShoah Commemoration
THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2025 AT 6:30 PM.
Join us for a powerful and reflective evening as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Holocaust.
This milestone serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and our collective responsibility to honor the memory of the victims and survivors.
The evening will feature a compelling keynote by Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter, Senior Scholar at the Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future and University Professor of Jewish History and Thought. Rabbi Schacter will share deeply personal stories from his late father, Rabbi Herschel Schacter, the first American Army chaplain to liberate Buchenwald. Rabbi Herschel Schacter dedicated himself to helping Survivors rebuild their shattered lives, and this moving presentation will underscore the enduring power of hope and faith amidst unimaginable horror.
This special evening will also include remarks by Consul General Michael Ahrens (Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chicago) and Consul General Yinam Cohen (Consulate General of Israel), a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors and their descendants, and memorial prayers led by Cantor David Berger of KAM Isaiah Israel.
Together, we pledge to honor the past, uphold the legacy of Holocaust memory, and inspire hope for a future free of hatred and intolerance.
Free to the public.
