Affordable Housing

Fits Your Lifestyle and Your Budget

Sense of Community

Age-Friendly Services and Amenities

CJE SeniorLife’s affordable housing communities offer our residents the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle with ready access to necessary services, and engaging activities in a safe setting. Our four buildings on Chicago’s north side and in Skokie each feature an on-site manager, maintenance staff, social service coordinators, and activity staff, of which several are fluent in Russian. They organize our holiday events, and plan frequent outings for our residents, including visits to museums, sporting events, and community presentations. To be able to successfully “live in place,” residents and family members work with our service coordinators to arrange necessary services; they can also mediate, educate, and advocate on our residents’ behalf. If a resident’s needs change, our staff is ready to help, providing such services as transportation, home-delivered meals, and consumer assistance. To apply or learn about other options, call our Affordable Housing at 888.773.8750.

Affordable Housing

We offer three apartment buildings that are affordable and/or offered at below market rates through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The rental rate depends on a family’s gross income. There is a waiting list for most buildings, but applications are always accepted.

To qualify for residency in our buildings, the head of household must be 62 or older, and families must meet HUD income guidelines. The rent is set at 30% of adjusted gross income per month. Rentals include studios, or one or two bedrooms apartments.

Swartzberg House in Rogers Park offers your own private living space at a price you can afford. Conveniently located on Touhy Avenue, near restaurants, shopping, and the Bernard Horwich JCC, one- and two-bedroom apartments are available. Numerous community areas are spread throughout the building, offering a comfortable gathering spot with other residents, family, or friends. In addition, you’ll also benefit from our regular enrichment activities, including community outings, in-building events, and programs. The Apartments are available to rent through HUD Section 8 income requirements, including the head of household being 62 years old or older. Due to high demand, there is a waiting list available for Swartzberg and our other affordable residences, but we are always accepting applications.
