Thursday, March 13—My Go-To Place on Cyber Club: From Page to Picture. Many classic films were inspired by books, with movie studios adding their own unique Hollywood touch to the stories. Join Film Historian Dr. Annette Bochenek as she presents and compares classic films based on books.
Thursday, March 20—My Go-To Place on Cyber Club: Citizen Soldier: African Americans in Times of War. The Chicago History Museum provides insight into the earliest expressions of patriotism and the long struggle for desegregation in the armed forces. We will examine conflicts ranging from the American Revolution to Operation Desert Storm, while also considering the social realities faced by African Americans in each era. Additionally, we will reflect on the hypocrisy of asking Black Americans to fight for a country that treats them as second-class citizens.
Thursday, March 27—My Go-To Place on Cyber Club: Gilded Age Mansions. Take a stroll along the grand mansions of Fifth Avenue and discover the stories of the owners who built them during New York City’s Gilded Age. Renowned architects such as Richard Morris Hunt, Stanford White, and C.P.H. Gilbert designed a variety of styles, including French châteaux, Italian palazzi, Gothic castles, and Neoclassical mansions, transforming Fifth Avenue along Central Park into one of the most iconic neighborhoods in New York City.
