Celebrate CJE will feature the astonishing music of Double Grammy Award Winner Howard Levy, accompanied by a dynamic group of performers including members of Chévere de Chicago and Acoustic Express. Howard and his trailblazing interpretations of numerous musical genres will make the evening soar with excitement and one you won’t want to miss.
Howard Levy, a double Grammy award winner, is a master of the diatonic harmonica, a superb pianist, innovative composer, recording artist, bandleader, teacher and producer who calls Chicago his home. Yet, he intrigues audiences worldwide by performing a collage of musical genres including Jazz, Classical, Rock, Folk, Latin and other internationally-inspired combinations. As a recording artist, his compelling music is sought after by many well-known artists such as Kenny Loggins, Dolly Parton, Paquito D’Rivera, Styx, Donald Fagen, and Paul Simon. Howard’s talent as a sideman has ignited hundreds of albums and movie soundtracks.
Best known for his work with Bela Fleck and The Flecktones in the early 1990s, Howard and the band won their first Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental for ‘Sinister Minister.’ The band reunited in 2010 and recorded “Rocket Science” featuring the song ‘Life in Eleven’ for which he and Bela Fleck won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition.
“The tour de force, however, came when Levy – also an accomplished pianist – sat down to the grand to accompany himself… Close your eyes and you could have sworn a very sensitive pianist was working with an uncommonly expressive harmonica player. In a way, that’s what happened, but both roles were rendered by the same person…” - Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune
